It is said that in the year 1006, in the places under the town walls, where the renewed Dragon’s Lane runs nowadays, the townsfolk of the emerging Trutnov community led by Lord Albrecht of Trautenberk killed a fierce dragon. The dragon appeared in the town’s seals, and is an essential part of the Trutnov coat of arms. Thanks to this legend Trutnov used to be sometimes called the Dragon’s Town in history. You can meet the dragon in Trutnov in a number of places nowadays, always from May till September, hanging on the tower of the Old Town Hall. To commemorate the unique Trutnov legend, it is raised onto the tower every year during the evening culmination of these original town dragon festivities.
